Altogether, GMA's "Think before you Click" campaign is a good advocacy in reminding netizens in their responsibility as users of the Information Superhighway. There's only a minor glitch in the process, however; and you'll find it out later--after this interesting post at People for Media.

IT’S timely, relevant, important.

GMA News’ “Think Before You Click” campaign is probably the best (or only?) media literacy campaign on the digital life which — I daresay — can even save lives. It advocates responsible use of social media — an attitude critical in a time when information dissemination at a personal level is already quick and easy.

The Economist described our times well: with social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook (and now Google+ enters the scene), the world is back to the coffee house of 1700s America. Information is floating in the din of the pub; sometimes nobody knows where the information comes from, but it’s there, free for redistribution [and misuse, may I add].

“Think Before You Click” simply reminds social media users to be wary about what they post on their bulletins or feeds; the information they post just might be used to harm them. Think the forgetful, grumpy employee who badmouths the boss who happens to be one of his Twitter followers. And the trigger-happy lass who takes photos of her house and posts it on Facebook, available for public ogling by robbers and kidnappers. Sad. [Indeed.]

But that’s just one side of the campaign. “Think Before You Click” is primarily a reminder against unfair and maleficent use of social media. What do you do to a tweet informing you about an acquaintance’s supposed scandalous misdeed? RT? Indeed, people now should also get the ideal journalist’s nose for truth. One has to measure the veracity of tweets first before retweeting them, especially when they are about people — and especially when one has hundreds of followers. [Have to emphasize that one.] And we’re talking about information on private people here, non-celebs who have no claim to nor dream of fame, ordinary people who want to be let alone.

One big minus to GMA News’ campaign, however, is its inclusion of Carlos Celdran as a model of responsible social media use. [Yeah, that bloke who just post random, insulting shit online.] While a talented person, Mr. Celdran is among the most rabid anti-Catholic social media users, some of whose tweets and retweets were far from fair to the people involved. [Come to think of it: This guy's broadcasting his insanity.]

Then again, we as ordinary news consumers, should also throw back the “think before you click” mantra at GMA News and other members of the “media elite” (thanks to Arnel Endrinal for the term): Think before you click “Publish”. And, especially when your piece is so “explosive” that certain actually-important details might have disappeared into the background, think twice. [Basically, this applies to everyone, including me. It just so happens that the system's not right.]

State of the Noynoy Address (SONA) 

Yey! It is just three days before the much awaited event of the year. On Monday, we will see this country's president do what he does best in front of national TV. Benigno S. Aquino (a.k.a. Noynoy) will be giving his second State of the Nation Address (a.k.a. SONA). [Why the a.k.a.'s, anyway? And what does he wanna say now, huh?]

Many people in the media are making their guess on what will Noynoy say in the SONA. Well, I have my guess too and if I am Noynoy this is what I will “say” this coming Monday:

My fellow Filipinos, I am here to highlight the state of our Nation. In just one year, my administration achieved great things for our country. Here are some of those achievements: [Achievements, eh?]

1. I successfully received a Porsche from a "friend." The Porsche is a boost to our economy because the Porsche allowed me to be cruise around the city without the need for the government to buy a new car. [and like driving along your "straight path" while your constituents are dying to walk in it?] Rest assured that my Porsche has no wang-wang. [Really?]

2. In the first year of my presidency, I successfully dated at least three girls. They did not become my girlfriends, however, and I blame the media for always checking on my love-life. [So what do you think is more important? your lovelife or your job?] I promise that I will date more than ten girls in the next year of my presidency. With the help of my Porsche, I believe that we can achieve this objective. [I don't even think about having a girlfriend soon, Mr. President, so just put it aside.]

3. Many people say that I stay awake until wee hours of the morning because of playing computer games. That is true and I say that is necessary for the honor of our Nation. [What honor? Of being the Best DotA Player in the World? wahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!] I proudly announce to you now that I am the new champion in DoTA and I successfully defeated gamers from other country. Sacrificing the hours of sleep of me and Malacañang staff is not in vain. [Grabe, ha...dinamay mo pa ang staff mo.]

4. I am glad to announce that my sister Kris is not interfering with my Administration. [Proof, please?] She is now interfering with the affairs of Senator Chiz after she failed to interfere with Jojo Binay's life. [And what kind of interference would you call that?]

5. My administration believes in the saying that "two heads are better than one." That's why I applied it on various agencies of the government to improve the flow of work in my Administration. I am glad to announce that the DILG has two heads while the Communication Group is headed by three competent chiefs. I promise to double the number of Department secretaries to sow more confusion in the future. [The quote does not apply to governance.]

6. I am also pleased to announce that my Administration successfully replaced the cronies of the old administration. My Administration has new cronies and the people affectionately call them as KKK. The name KKK sounds like the name of the revolutionary movement of Andres Bonifacio.  Naming my cronies to Bonifacio's group shows how much the people love my KKK. [Can anybody with a sane mind define what KKK is?]

7. I am pleased to announce that I am the most hardworking president that the Nation ever has. [Dream on.] I already attended to 1,000 speaking engagements, I wrote 500 speeches and I cut 99 ribbons. I promise to top all of that in the next year of my presidency. [As if you are.]

8. I am pleased to announce that under my Administration, many famous people visited our country. Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus are few of those famous people. This goes to show that my administration curbed insurgency and terrorism because they are not afraid to visit our country. [Talk about tourism....]

9. There are many problems and challenges that we faced in the first year of my Administration. The main problem that we encountered is the decrease of my approval ratings. We had discovered the source of that problem and all the problems of our Nation and that is the Arroyo Administration. [As always, blaming the predecessor.]

My first year in office is just a preview of many good things to come for the Filipino people, who are my “boss.”. [I'm you're boss, and I don't see what you said as "good things to come". I'll just tell my Boss to enlighten you more, like if you care to.] I promise that I will continue to work through the "matuwid na daan" without using any wang-wang. I promise that my Administration will top all the acheivements of the Arroyo Administration. [Promises, promises. Gasgas na 'yan.]

Oh, I almost forgot. My Administration is also busy in excavating the corrupt practices of the previous administration. Just watch those exposes in TV. [And look at the collateral damage your subordinates have done.] And please ignore my incompetence and my love-life. Thank you and good night. Babalik pa ako sa paglalaro ng Grand Theft Auto. [Whatever, Mr. President. I'll just wait for 2016.]

Bishops are NOT "kadiri". The ones who call them such are.

First things first: Let me tell you that I'm not siding on anyone in writing these scribbles, especially this one.


I write this shit because some members of our society are going waaaaay too far--in this case, Elizabeth Angsioco, the Pro-RH Bill Ultrafeminist Bitch who is writing for Manila Standard Today. The crappy article could be read HERE, and below, I'll give my rants....

Shock and outrage are all over because millions of pesos in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office funds meant to help poor Filipinos were instead used to purchase vehicles for certain members of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. [Uhh, where can we read that? Here? hahahaha]

What these men in robes did was very wrong on several counts. [Come on. Show it.]

The 2005 CBCP Statement on Gambling said that based on MORAL teachings, “…the CBCP has made it a collective policy:.. to refrain from soliciting or receiving funds from illegal and legal gambling so as not to promote a culture of gambling; and to encourage church personnel and church institutions to refrain from doing the same, even when the objective may be that of helping the poor.” [Uh-huh...]

The PCSO is mandated to manage legal numbers games [Legal? Yes. Contributing to poverty alleviation? Not felt.]. Even if proceeds go to charity, the money is still from gambling, legal as it may be. Clearly, therefore, these bishops violated their own policy and did something immoral. “Helping the poor” cannot be a justification here [Proof, please...(of course except for the one you just mentioned].

I wonder if the CBCP will discipline these bishops [They are. They are even persuading their brother Bishops to speak about the truth, which in your part can be lies].

Art. VI, Sec. 29(2) of the Philippine Constitution states, “No public money or property shall be appropriated, applied, paid, or employed, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, sectarian institution, or system of religion, or of any priest, preacher, minister, other religious teacher, or dignitary as such, except when the priest, preacher, minister, or dignitary is assigned to the armed forces, or to any penal institution, or government orphanage or leprosarium.” [So what?]

Even for a non-lawyer like me, this provision is self-explanatory [Self-explanatory, indeed. But there should be more legal interpretation of it; it's like you're using the Bible for your own convenience]. As plain as day, what then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, PCSO officials, and the bishops did was not only morally BUT legally wrong [Whatever. We don't need to mention more names; it's just wasting precious web and print space].

Even if those vehicles are used for social work, they still are used by, benefit, and support, directly and indirectly, the Roman Catholic Church [Besides, you're ignorant that the Catholic Church, though based in Rome, have other major rites--Antiochian, Syrian, and Byzantine. For more information, please refer to MSAG and other Catholic blogs] and the bishops. It is this simple [Simple? Is the structure of your sentence simple? Anyway, why do you have to focus your bitterness to Catholics? Is it because they spearhead everything against what you're supporting?].

I wonder if cases will be filed against those involved. [And I presume that if ever the Bishops concerned are put to jail, you'll laugh at their faces.]

Last May 28, I wrote “The church of the poor” (http://bit.ly/jnvdow) which specified the stock holdings of various Catholic entities in the Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) and Philex Mining Corporation. Then, their total assets in stocks totalled P17.5 billion.

Three months later, stock prices rose. Based on Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) 7 July 2011 records, their holdings in these corporations are now worth a whooping P18,040,238,371.80.

These Catholic entities earned P567 million doing nothing! [Nothing? Are you sure? Then what do you call their "Pondo ng Pinoy"? Their social work for the poor? Can your anti-Church people even match what they did for 2,000 years?]

This is not all. The lists of their top 100 stockholders corporations submit quarterly to the PSE, Catholic entities have the following holdings in these corporations:

1. San Miguel Corporation (SMC) as of 31 June 2011 (the number to the right indicates ranking in list of stockholders)

• (31) El Superior De La Corporacion Filipina de Padres Agustinos Recoletos, Inc. with 7,370,000 shares;

• (75) Superior De La Corporacion Archicofradia De N.P.J.N.

De Recoletos with 1,234,603 shares;

• (79) Carmel of the Divine Infant Jesus of Prague Inc. A/C No. 2 with 957,516 shares;

• (81) The Roman Catholic Bishop of Tuguegarao with 856,639 shares;

• (83) Real Monasterio De La Purisima Concepcion De Nuestra

Madre Santa Clara De Manila with 809,834 shares;

• (91) Superior De La Corporacion De Padres Recoletos Por

Becas Y Vocaciones with 621,702 shares;

In SMC alone, RCC groups own a total of 13,323,181 shares worth P1,698,705,577.50 (at P127.50/share) as of 7 July PSE Market Information.

2. Ayala Group as of 31 March disclosure

• (64) Roman Catholic Bishop of Tagbilaran with 10,000 preferred B shares worth P1,015,000.00 (P100.10/share);

• (73) The Roman Catholic Bishop of Tuguegarao with 24,015 Ayala Corp. shares worth P7,828,890.00 at P326.00/share; and

• (100) The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila with 373,740 Ayala Land shares worth P5,890,142.40 at P15.76/share.

Total share value of RCC entities in Ayala Group is PhP14,734,032.40 as of 7 July.

3. PHINMA Corporation as of 30 June 2011

• (20) Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul with 159,575 shares;

• (21) The Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Juan De Dios with 153,880 shares; and

• (52) Religious of the Virgin Mary 58,975 shares.

In PHINMA, they own 372,430 shares valued (as of 5 July) at P12.30/share or a total of P4,580,889.00.

4. Concrete Aggregates Corporation (CA) as of 31 March 2011

• (9) The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila with 78,486 shares;

• (18) The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila – Real Casa De

Misericordia with 13,067 shares;

• (24) The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila – Hospital De San Juan De Dios with 8,317 shares;

• (66) The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila – Hospicio De San Jose with 1,898 shares; and

In CA, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila’s various arms own a total of 102,609 shares worth P4,514,796 as of 7 July at P44.00/share.

• (98) Congregacion De La Mision De San Vicente De Paul with 42,059 shares.

Here, they own 257,309 shares valued at P1,240,229.38 (P4.82/share as of 7 July.)

[Another waste of space. Even your most ardent readers will ask you how did you get all of these...or will they?]

There are a few more minor holdings that are not included here and many more corporations can be examined. Even without touching the RCC’s real estate properties (which are surely worth many billions) [What real estate properties are you talking about?], and its highly profitable businesses like schools and hospitals, it is quite clear that the RCC as a church, as well as its various entities are FILTHY RICH. [If that is the case, at least they give their wealth for the betterment of society; the only thing that makes it almost unknown is the fact that the people behind the Catholic Church who do such are anonymous for their own security.]

Catholic stock holdings alone in identified corporations already total to almost 20 billion pesos! Not bad for a Church, really. [Bah! Nonsense.]

What gets my goat is the fact that despite their untouched billions, the good bishops [Again, you got the nerve calling these Bishops good and at the same time disgusting. Make up your mind.] have the gall to compete against poor Filipinos for meager government funds. And for what? Vehicles that they can very well afford to buy. 

Bishops, this is very, very wrong. This is kadiri! [Kadiri ka rin!]
